Debiutanckim albumem "The Family Jewels" z 2010 roku Walijka Marina Diamandis, znana jako Marina And The Diamonds, oczarowała miłośników indie popu w wielu krajach. Do ich produkcji artystka wybrała speców z pierwszej ligi, między innymi Dr. Luke'a (Katy Perry), Ricka Nowelsa (Madonna), Liama Howe'a (Sneaker Pimps), Grega Kurstina (Lily Allen).W tekstach Marina zmierzyła się z takimi tematami, jak miłość, odrzucenie, nieudany romans, nadzieja. Ale nie ma tu tylko grzebania w otwartych ranach. Całość jest w dużym stopniu podlana humorem. Brytyjskim humorem. "Cała płyta to taka oda to dysfunkcyjnej miłości. Oparłam ją na postaciach znanych z romansów, filmowych i teatralnych" - mówi artystka. "Album to moja odpowiedź na odrzucenie."
