The Sims 3: Zostań gwiazdą to propozycja adresowana do fanów gry The Sims 3, którym nie straszne są występy na scenie i mozolna droga do popularności. Na prośbę graczy deweloperzy z EA The Sims Studio powrócili do starego pomysłu (sprawdzonego w dodatku The Sims: Gwiazda) rozbudowując go nowe elementy. Rozszerzenie do pewnego stopnia rewolucjonizuje rozgrywkę, wprowadzając funkcje społecznościowe i umożliwiając wzajemne kontakty pomiędzy Simami różnych graczy.
Dodatek The Sims 3: Zostań gwiazdą oferuje trzy nowe ścieżki kariery oraz związane z nimi cechy i marzenia życiowe Simów. Wirtualne postaci mogą zostać piosenkarzami, didżejami, artystami estradowymi (akrobatami) lub magikami. Profesje te nieodłącznie związane są ze sceną i występami publicznymi, dlatego twórcy rozszerzenia zadbali o możliwość budowania własnych lokali estradowych.
