Panzer Command: Kharkov jest kontynuacją wydanej w 2006 roku przez Matrix Games taktycznej strategii rozgrywającej się w realiach II Wojny Światowej. Za produkcję sequelu odpowiadają twórcy części pierwszej, a mianowicie zespół Koios Works, znany także ze strategicznej serii Tin Soldiers.

Akcja Panzer Command: Operation Winter Storm koncentrowała się na wydarzeniach w Stalingradzie w 1942 roku. Panzer Command: Kharkov skupia się na tytułowym Charkowie i zaciętych walkach jakie miały w nim i jego okolicy miejsce. Decydując się na prowadzenie wojsk niemieckich nasze rozkazy będziemy wydawać m.in. 14 Dywizji Pancernej (8 bitew - Charków) i 4 Dywizji Pancernej (4 bitwy – Mcensk, 3 bitwy – Łuk Kurski). Stojąc po przeciwnej stronie barykady będziemy uczestniczyć w 8 potyczkach kierując 169 Dywizją Strzelecką. Do dyspozycji posiadaczy pierwszej części gry oddane zostały nowe, pojedyncze batalie oraz przemodelowane kampanie. Panzer Command: Kharkov oferuje także rozbudowany generator misji.

Walki zbrojne zazwyczaj są bardzo wyczerpujące i trwają dość długo. W tym czasie jednostki biorące udział w starciach odczuwają zmęczenie, brak amunicji, zdobywają doświadczenie. Twórcy gry nie zapomnieli o tym, dlatego musimy bacznie śledzić losy naszych podopiecznych i o nich dbać. Przed każdą misją należy także pamiętać o uzupełnieniu strat w dywizjach. Postępy na placu boju nagradzane są nowymi umiejętnościami oraz medalami. Świetnie odwzorowane uzbrojenie wraz z bogatą bazą danych historycznych znacząco wpływa na realizm rozgrywki. Autorzy zadbali także o odpowiedni wygląd pojazdów oraz umundurowania. Warunki pogodowe na froncie odpowiadają tym, jakie towarzyszyły uczestnikom walk prawie 70 lat temu. Względem pierwowzoru poprawie uległy takie elementy jak sztuczna inteligencja zarówno naszych jak i wrogich jednostek, grafika, a także system wydawania poleceń. Ogromny nacisk położono na poprawność historyczną prezentowanych zdarzeń, dlatego miłośnicy tego okresu nie powinni czuć się zawiedzeni.

Dateline: May 12th, 1942. “General Winter” has loosened his grip on the Eastern Front of World War II and both the German and Soviet armies have made plans to seize the initiative with a major offensive to follow the thaw. As fate would have it, both sides choose the Kharkov region as their focus. The stage is set for a decisive battle and one that will hold many surprises for both sides.

After a massive artillery barrage, five Soviet armies launch their assault on the Wehrmacht lines, which they find better defended than they had expected. With determination they push forward and a week of hard fighting and retreating has the Germans at the breaking point. This is the moment when the German counter-punch is revealed, as an entire Panzer Army strikes the base of the south flank of the Soviet attack, threatening to cut off the attacking Soviet forces.

As a commander in the 169th Rifle Division, lead the assault on the northern flank into tough German defenses. Test your mettle and see if you can uphold the reputation of one of the Soviet Union’s most decorated formations.
